Maptek to host Geostatistics Citation
Mining software and hardware developer Maptek will host the prestigious Geostatistics Citation course from the University of Alberta in Perth in February-March 2009.
Expert geostatistics teacher and researcher from the Civil and Environmental Engineering department of the University of Alberta,

Maptek Technical Services Manager for Western Australia, mining engineer Claudia Monreal said 'This course is ideal for a wide range of mining professionals – from those running grade estimations to more experienced users who might need a deeper knowledge of theory and practice of geostatistics.'
Claudia has recently returned from Viña del Mar where she provided her geostatistical expertise to assist Dr Deutsch with the Citation held in Maptek’s Chile office.
'Maptek has benefited from providing support for the event in the past, having hosted 6 courses in Chile, including 2008, and 1 in Denver in 2007. We are pleased to be hosting the first Citation in Australia,'
she added. |
The course involves theoretical and practical study, with students able to gain knowledge in the theory and use of modern geostatistical tools in mining. Following the compulsory 4-week teaching sessions, participants work on individual or group projects, with Maptek and other industry professionals as mentors.
Students who complete the course, including the project phase, will be awarded the Citation in Applied Geostatistics from the Faculty of Extension at the University of Alberta, Canada.

Raúl Roco, from Xstrata Chile
‘It’s been just the right balance of theory and application. It’s followed a step-by-step plan while answering our questions too.’
Nigel Luckman of Southwestern Resources
‘This was a great course and exciting four weeks with geostatistical theory nicely blended with practical applications. The instructors were very skillful in explaining even the most complex theoretical concepts in an intuitive and very well understood manner.’
